Dear Friends:
As we begin Lent, we must make time for prayer in our lives if we wish to hear the word of God in our lives. We can easily lose focus of growing in holiness and living the Gospel. We must stop the usual activities of our lives to make special time to be with Christ, relating to him as our friend and bringing our needs and desires to him. Asking for his wisdom and guidance by the Spirit to live our lives humbly and generously giving of ourselves to others. We must turn off the noise of TV, radio, social media, internet, etc. so we can hear the message of Christ for us in our personal lives. Make a commitment to even 15 min. of prayer at home, whatever you feel drawn to, such as the rosary, divine mercy chaplet, scriptural meditation, etc. There are many daily Lenten meditations available on websites, apps, and booklets.
Coming to public prayer can help to motivate you as well. Our parish is holding three holy hours of adoration with Spiritual talks by seminary priests on the first three Sundays of Lent. On Fridays we have our Stations of the Cross prayers at 6 pm.
These help us to focus on Jesus and meditate on his love for us in dying and rising again. Start now to make the lent a time of growth in prayer, holiness and charity.
In Christ,
Fr. Lance
